Bodegas Elvara S.L. is a Barcelona based company founded in 2001 by Derek Simes and Murray Marr and dedicated to the international marketing of a diverse range of quality Spanish wines.
We work in close partnership with independently owned and cooperative bodegas from all parts of Spain, who produce to strict quality standards and promote their wines to the trade across a range of international markets.
We are committed to bringing the consumer the authentic taste of Spain through a broad portfolio of carefully sourced wines that we believe offer exceptional value and where Spain's rich wine culture and unique indigenous varietals produce wines of unparalled character and class.
Our travels across the vineyards of Spain have taken us to well over 100 bodegas, in over 15 different Denominación de Origen credited wine regions.
Why Spain?
Much has been written recently about new Spain and the growing international recognition of the high quality wines coming from emerging regions, where previously only mediocre wine was the norm, predominantly provided in bulk. Our intention is to promote this quality shift by pulling together a carefully selected range of wines from different terroirs, so demonstrating the huge range of contrasting styles and tastes now evident in contemporary Spanish winemaking.
Above all, we are looking for originality, innovation and simply something different from the mass of familiar wines that can be found on shelves and wine lists everywhere. This manifests itself in a limited, carefully chosed selection, rather than an endlessly broad assortment.
Quality - from Grape to the Bottle
Because wine is a living product that has a finite shelf life, it was important to us to have full confidence in the intrinsic qualities and methods which go into making a sound wine.
Accordingly, we have been accompanied on much of our travels by an internationally renowned, UK based wine consultant, Corkwise www.corkwise.net. Quality audits were carried out on selected bodegas, focusing on the fundamentals of good vineyard management and the complexities of vinification, barrel ageing and bottling in an increasingly technical world.
The result is a unique range of wines selected against strict quality criteria.
